On July 1st, the demonstration and observation meeting for new varieties and technologies of edible beans was successfully held in Julu County, Xingtai City. The meeting was organized by the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops of HAAFS, with over 40 people participating in this event.

Scientist FAN Baojie from the Edible Bean Research Laboratory of the Institute introduced the construction of the demonstration base. The base relies on the National Edible Bean Industry Technology System and the provincial innovation team for coarse cereals and beans. Using fallow land, a spring sowing edible bean demonstration field of 300 mu has been established in Zhangwangtuan Township, with a radiation area of 20000 mu. The demonstration varieties are new mung bean varieties “Jilv 19” and “Jilv 20”, and new cowpea variety “Jijiang 1”, which have good traits of anti lodging, high-yield and stable production and suitable for machine harvesting.

The person in charge of the base shared the progress of promoting new varieties of edible beans. He stated that the whole process mechanized production technology used from sowing, weeding, green pest control to harvesting, which not only achieves the green production goal of “one control and two reductions”, but also plays a demonstrative and leading role in the adjustment of agricultural industry structure. In addition, it provides technical support for full utilization of fallow land, increase of farmers’ income and the development of local coarse cereals and beans industries.

This observation meeting not only showcased the technical strength of the edible bean team of the Institute in the field of comprehensive utilization of fallow land, but also provided a learning and exchange platform for the sustainable development of agriculture in Julu County and even Hebei Province, which is of great significance for promoting the development of the edible beans industry in fallow land.
